"The mission of the Cape Canaveral Volunteer Fire Department is to provide
the City of Cape Canaveral, the Canaveral Port Authority,
and the unincorporated area of Avon by the Sea
with trained professional personnel to protect life, property and the environment in an economical, expedient and competent manner."

Canaveral Fire Rescue is under contract to provide fire and non-transport advanced life support Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to both the City of Cape Canaveral and the Canaveral Port Authority. In addition to this, under agreement with the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners, Canaveral Fire Rescue provides the same protection to the unincorporated tract of land to the south of the city known as Avon by the Sea, and also maintains mutual-aid agreements with neighboring communities thereby providing additional protection.

The dept. was chartered by the State of Florida in April 1962. Currently, 24 dedicated professionals staff the dept, along with approximately 45 volunteer members. The dept. responds to over 2,000 Fire/EMS calls per year from the two stations. Canaveral Fire Rescue is equipped and trained to respond to structural, wildland, and marine vessel fires. Advance life support medical services, vehicle extrication, hazardous materials response, high-angle and confined-space rescue are also available. Along with the support of the United States Coast Guard, A.L.S. can be provided in the open ocean.

The Canaveral Port Authority built a state-certified fire training academy and maritime firefighting facility. Local firefighters, who may be called to battle a ship fire in the Port, are trained here. Ships’ crews are offered firefighting team training and CPR / A.E.D.

This facility also is home to the Brevard Community College state-certified minimum firefighter standards program. The facility includes two classrooms, a fire-burn simulator, and a 54-foot tall training tower.
